A Story of Peter Pan Opossum - The boy who didn't want to grow up ...

This Virginia Opossum was brought to the Peace River Wildlife Center in April of 2011 with a group of siblings. Mom had been found dead on the side of the road after having been hit by a vehicle. The 30 gram babies were removed from her pouch by a savvy Good Samaritan. By June, all of his siblings had grown to 700 - 1,200 grams! Peter Pan, weighing in at 150 grams was placed with a new incoming group of babies. When the second litter was released back to the wild, again all weighing in at approximately 1 kilogram, Peter Pan had only grown to 174 grams. Not only was he tiny, but by that time he had cleary preferred the companionship of people over that of other opossums. He had obviously decided to become the Peace River Wildlife Center's new Ambassador of Cuteness.

Be sure to stop by the Opossum Habitat and see our Opossum, "Peter Pan" on your next visit
